The Grow Out Farming Process

Divron partners with farmers and fishers around Sri Lanka to grow the prawns, fish, and shellfish in the best possible conditions. We select ancient “tanks”, reservoirs, and lagoon areas with excellent water quality and high productivity for our grow-out program. Divron is committed to developing these opportunities on a long-term basis to improve the livelihoods of the communities who depend on these natural resources. Poverty is still widespread in many of these areas of rural Sri Lanka, particularly in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, where economic and social recovery is still rebuilding after the conflict.

In coastal lagoons, oyster “spat” collected for the natural oyster beds are transferred to nets and trays for grow out under the care and management of community members. Divron works primarily with women who are organizing to undertake the clam and oyster farming in Sri Lanka.
